Life is Full of Risks, Stop Playing Safe all the Time _Yes, Take Risks When Necessary

Last week, I received with shock, the news of the death of Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mbogu, who was my project supervisor. Someone I conversed with during oral examinations and project discussions is suddenly no more. We had agreed that I would be bringing him a copy of my project after the final printing. But, lo, he is no more. His plans of travelling out during the long vacation, his book projects and so on…all gone. What a life!

In the same manner, the shocking news of Owo massacre which took place on Pentecost Sunday also had a very deep impact on me. After watching the clips, I could only imagine the plans the dead people may have had. They would not have imagined that it was a goodbye to mother earth on that faithful day. What a life!

May the soul of Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mbogu, the souls of the Owo massacre victims and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen.

Take risks

You may wonder why I had to recount these sad events. Of course, I want to talk about risk-taking and there is no better way to begin than by reminding you that “Your life is only a breath which fades away like a shadow.” (Ps 144:4) If this is the case, why do we hesitate to take risks? Why do we hesitate to take actions that will yield us greater good? Why do we remain conservative even till the point of death? This life is not our creation and we cannot live better by being afraid of risks. There is room for well-calculated risk-taking. Yes, risks should be taken from time to time.

I do not mean to encourage foolhardiness or extravagance in deeds, but I want to encourage you to take more risks than you are already taking. Risk-taking may be the only thing separating you from achieving your goals. Increase your risk-taking because even if you do not take risks, life will hit you with risky situations. Most importantly, if you do not take risks, you will end up in regrets when you eventually do not have the opportunity to take them.

Take risks

Take some risks and see what will come your way. It could be your best decision in the month of July 2022. Stop playing safe all the time. Risks are meant for man and most risks will give you the joy of having at least tried out something. I encourage you in this new month to stand up from your conservative slumber and take calculated risks for the advancement of your goals.

Happy New Month of July 2022
