Introduction
Every person desires success in his dealings, success in life. This is because there is a natural tendency in man to expect the best in his engagements despite the obstacles of self-doubt and related setbacks. It is true that from time to time, the meaning of success changes in the life of an individual as goals are met. This is because the idea of success becomes bigger and bigger with advancement in age and achievement of proximate success.
However, the same characteristics are found in every success no matter how small or big it appears. With every success comes a greater level of clarity and motivation for the next ‘success project’ in line. This already spells a relation between success and accumulation. No one achieves any single success because it is not possible to do that. Success comes like a chain, each linking to another. It is like a journey and every step taken is important to the arrival at the final destination.
The Law of Accumulation
The first theoretical encounter I had with the law of accumulation was from Brian Tracy’s book The Power of Self-discipline. In speaking about the law of accumulation, he stated it thus: “every great achievement is an accumulation of smaller achievements.” For greater relevance and conformity to our topic, the word achievement can be replaced with success. Therefore “every great success is an accumulation of smaller successes.”
We can also say that there is no huge success without a foundation of minor trials, failures and successes that have grown over time to give rise to it.” As banal as this sounds, it is obvious that people do not consider this law in their dealings. Just by meditating briefly on the law of accumulation, we can already decipher the secrets to success and great achievements in different areas of life. However, not everyone knows and not everyone who knows is willing to go through the process of accumulation to achieve success.
Relationship between Success and the Law of Accumulation
The relationship between success and the law of accumulation is already explicit in the reformulated expression of the law above. So many people desire huge success without considering that they should begin with little successes which will eventually accumulate and give rise to that huge success. They have their eyes fixed on that great project and they neglect the little things they should be doing at the moment.
The law of attraction is teaching us to begin succeeding at something right now. It is not wise to keep waiting for a huge success when we can succeed at something at the moment. We should know that the small successes will eventually give birth to a big success, why then do we remain idle grieving over the failure of achieving the huge success.
Several real life stories buttress the fact that little achievements matter a lot. It also makes logical sense. It is the minor success in the building of several parts of the car like the tyres, engine, metallic parts etc., that will eventually lead to the major success of building a moving car. Skipping the building of the minor parts and looking at the big picture is unwise and will lead to frustration in such a venture. This is the same in any kind of success one wants to attain. There must be smaller things you can succeed at which will eventually lead you to that huge success you desire.
Various Applications of the Law of Accumulation to Achieve Success
A conscious and systematic application of the law of accumulation will make so much difference in the way we approach goals and will eventually help us to achieve so much success in different areas of life.
Spirituality:
Some people have great visions of how spiritually enhanced they want to become in future. They desire the ability to meditate for hours, speak passionately to a big congregation and so much more. However, they do not realize that they must begin from the minute steps like meditating for minutes, speaking passionately to a small congregation etc. Succeeding in these minute steps will play a great role in the actualization of the big spiritual goals and desires.
Talents and skills:
There are only rare cases where people suddenly develop a special skill abruptly. Developing a skill or a talent requires time. Focusing on the final goal of being proficient in a particular skill can be frustrating and discouraging. However, it is by taking gradual steps and succeeding in beginner tasks that one can eventually ascend to the level of professionalism.
One who desires to learn how to play the keyboard should begin with succeeding at completing finger exercises, completing grade 1 courses and so on. These will eventually accumulate to the point where he is succeeding in playing a score in the messiah, the whole messiah and eventually success in being the lead pianist in an official musical performance. This can be applied to whatever talent or skill one intends to develop.
Discipline:
Anyone who wants to become disciplined must be ready to build it up gradually. One may desire the discipline to study for long hours but this should not be chased all at once. It develops by success in studying for 30 minutes, 1 hour and gradually it would increase to the desired study hours. Breaking down the success into small achievable chunks makes it easier to achieve huge success. Whatever kind of discipline one intends to imbibe, it is necessary to find the minor successes in that venture that will lead to the major success.
Finances:
There appears to be a link between the law of attraction and the law of accumulation which is made clear in the accumulation of wealth. Of course, by imbibing the idea of accumulation and putting it into practice it becomes easy to accumulate. In the area of finances, it is possible to accumulate great wealth by starting small. Some people keep praying and hoping to earn or receive a certain amount of money. They fail to realize that it will be difficult to obtain a sudden change in thier financial situation by hoping without a workable strategy.
In the application of this law, it is possible to begin by achieving small successes in financial goals. Instead of looking at accumulating 10,000,000 you should begin with a goal of 1,000. After that, you will go to the next level of 10,000 then 100,000 and so on. The success at each milestone is a veritable tool that makes the possibility of achieving the next milestone feasible.
Conclusion
Advocating for smaller successes by applying the law of accumulation does not rule out the inevitability of encountering failures. Of course, anyone who strongly desires to achieve great success must be ready to fail and rise again. The failure can begin from the small successes and may characterize the early beginnings. This should not be a source of discouragement. Winston Churchill once said “Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”
Success is a journey, be ready to embark on this journey. Whatever area of your life that is calling for improvement should be considered. Never let your dreams fade away because of the fear of failure. You should consider failure as a sign that you are getting closer to the achievement of your goals. With this mindset, the law of accumulation wisely practised will help you surmount obstacles that you will encounter on the path to success.
